Dax Super Light

Don't make'em like they used to.. always like coming across cans like this that have been hiding out on the shelf for what looks like the last 15 years.  Even the labels on some of them are starting to fade out, you can almost see through them.

Dax High & Tight Awesome Shine Review

dax high and tight review

The high&tight awesome hold has been one of my favorites lately so I had to try it's green counterpart here.  Grabbed some yesterday for 3.50$ so like all Dax products, the price is right.  One of the big ups of the high&tights to me is the smell and the awesome shine has the same scent as the awesome hold.  When I first caught a whiff I kind of thought it was like a musky old man cologne scent but it's really grown on me.  It is a bit muskier than most products but I dig it, if you see some take a whiff.

dax high and tight

Popping the top you see a blue green semi translucent glop of product staring back at you.. never know what you're gonna get when it looks like this.

Digging in it's super light and greasy, the kind that wants to slide right off your finger.. it's got a little bit of strength but mostly lightweight grease here.  Hmm, I was hoping to get the best of both worlds with this one, thought it was going to be a heavyweight product like the awesome hold just with more shine factor, guess not.  Can't win'em all but too late to turn back now.  I put it in my palms and got a really thin layer of grease so it was super easy to slide through my hairs.  Got it evenly dispersed with no problem and combed it through.  The nice smell stays with it and I got my hairs in place quick and easy, but it's a real lightweight product.

dax high and tight shine

Although I got my style it wasn't super tight like I like it and the hold wasn't there as much, the front wanted to droop real bad.  Walking outside into the sun and heat made it sag a lot too.  You can kind of see the top wants to push forward and fall where stronger products usually hold my hairs straight back.  Did give it shine though you can't tell much from the pics, and it made my hair really soft too.  Being as it is a super shine product it does do what it says so I can't fault it for not being what I hoped.
If you want a nice firm holder with a great smell check out the High&Tight awesome hold

Using that first might've set the bar to high for it's green brother can here, as I was halfway expecting the same thickness of pomade.. but it's still a good product if you like a light dressing grease or if you've got thicker or curly hair that holds itself in place already this would be good for sheen and smell.  I'll probably mix a bit of both together and test that out, but for me I don't think I'll be using this by itself.  Still worth a shot if you like the lighter products and definitely for the smell.  Check it out if you see a can or grab a can of both types here

S Curl Pomade Review

s curl pomade

New School classic here from the same company out of Chicago that brings you the 360 Style pomade.  Now I don't think this is going to bring out any kind of waves with my hair type but I'm going to use it anyhow.  First off this stuff is cheap, 2$ a can so I like that.. and just cause it is doesn't mean it's not a quality product, some of my favorites ring in at the same price range.

s curl pomade review

Popping the top you see it's that golden translucent type of pomade, reminiscent of wave and groom or other similar products.  Smell is nice, not too heavy.. just smells like a mellow product scent, nothing really to compare it to but smells good.  You've probably smelled it in other peoples hair before and might recognize the scent.

Digging in it's nice and firm, put it in your palms to spread around and soften it up.  I like the pomades on the harder side for that solid all day hold without your shit drooping down.  Goes in quick and easy, I started with a little then added an extra dab.  Brushed it in evenly then combed it up.  Made my hairs nice and solid so they would stand up into place.

s curl pomade review

I don't have a whole lot of hair anymore but I imagine this would stack your shit high if you're going for a big pompadour.  Made mine real firm and pliable so there's a lot of flexibility, but for now all I'm looking for is it to whip up my style quick and easy and hold it there all day.  The S Curl did that with no problem.

s curl wave control review

If you comb it up it's going to be nice and tight, or you can brush it or pick it out for something bigger or looser.. either way this stuff is going to hold good.  Re combs no problem too.  Didn't give me a lot of shine but the can says it would.. not a dealbreaker for me but if you like that high gloss you might need a dab of something else to shine it up.  Then again it might add shine for you cause it's supposed to.  Think this will work different depending on your hair type.  The can says to warm/dampen your hairs with a hot towel before applying but I always just put everything in dry.  That might help get your waves spinning if you do the hot towel, or dampen it and drop a wave cap on top.  But for what I'm looking for it seemed to do the trick.

Overall I'd say it's a definite for your arsenal, at 2$ why not grab some?  Super strong, firm hold for height and style ability, smells good, goes in and works easy, and it's going to last all day.  You can get it just about anywhere

Driven and rode my bike by this place a million times.  They got those sweet chairs, look like they're from the late 60's/early 70's with that futuristic mod look and the classic green.  Definitely some old school shit.. I'd give 'em a try but I'm not looking for someone new.  If you're in the Detroit area check them out on Coolidge right above 696

Dax Green and Gold Review

dax green and gold review

Been wanting to test this out for awhile now..  Styling wax of the new millenium it says, sounds like some high tech business.  Looking at the ingredients it kind of is, you got the classic beeswax, jojoba, safflower, and olive oil for a nice natural blend.. plus some other things thrown into the mix.  Dax definitely knows what they're doing, I like how they always throw some extra shit in to make your hair how they put it, softer shinier conditions softens etc.. not that I care too much about all those things but it's the thought that counts, everyone likes added features right?  More bang for the buck, plus it seems with a lot of their products you can tell it works it's way into your hairs and does extra stuff that a lot of pomades don't throughout the day.  Enough of the smalltalk, time to get down.

dax green and gold review

Popping the hood you see some really interesting looking goop.. bright ass yellow with a mild, almost earthy, clean product smell.  Very nice, and somewhat intriguing.. it's so bright it looks like some hardcore shit, who knows what's going to happen, might be from outer space or something.

dax green and gold

Digging in this stuff is HARD, real hard.. which is good for me, I like the heavyweight products.  Scooped some out and realized after you break the surface that super shiny exterior disappears and you see it looks like a matte wax.  Cool again for me, looks like a winner so far.

I rubbed this dab into my palm with my fingertips and circled it out for a minute to try and soften it a bit  but it kept it's hardness, which I don't mind.. means it's gonna hold like a vice grip.  I put it in with no problem, applied with ease and combed it right through.  Got my style kicking real quick, had my hairs at full attention.

dax green and gold review

Boom bam bing, put it in, comb it up, out the door!  Looks like a winner to me, this stuff does what it's supposed to with no hassle.

dax green and gold review

Easy, real easy.. threw it in and with a couple quick strokes of the comb everything was in place.  Holds real tight too, extra firm.. like a wax should.

dax green and gold

I rocked it all night and not a thing dropped out of place, looked brand new hours after putting it in.  If anything does fall out, re combing is no problem.  Only I wouldn't try running your fingers through, but I don't really do that anyhow.  Overall this one gets top billing.. price is right at around $2.50 you can't lose, smell is very light if you're looking for a strong scent but it's still very nice.  Holds everything in place, let's you get as much or as little height as you want and keeps it tight all day.  Does give it a mostly matte finish if you're looking for the shiny slicked up look but I imagine a light top coat of something shinier would work fine with this product.  I love it, I'm a big fan of the extra hard and waxy, cement like products.. don't even mind the almost dry/matte look for a change up..  Looking forward to rocking this often.  Grab some if you see it or check out Dax online and see what they have to say
